Letters: Small price to pay for cycling safely
I have been reading with interest the recent correspondence
published in your newspaper regarding cyclists. As a motorist and a cyclist
I have witnessed foolish dangerous and inconsiderate acts by both cyclists
and motorists.
However the purpose of this letter is to draw all cyclists'
attention to an organisation called Cycle Training.
I discovered it recently by responding to a small advertisement
in your paper concerning cycling tuition.
I have cycled in London for the majority of my life and
yet the last cycling tuition I took was 28 years ago when I took my cycling
proficiency badge as a child.
Road conditions have changed dramatically since then
and, like driving, procedures and safe practices change with time also,
to reflect the increase in vehicular traffic and new style road junctions.
Last Saturday, I received a one-hour lesson from Cycle
Training conducted on a one-to-one basis.
I would not only recommend the tuition but would urge
all other London cyclists to register for an updating lesson, which are
currently being subsidised. The tutor was very professional, reliable,
had planned the lesson in advance and instructed me on manoeuvres that
I personally have found awkward and/or difficult.
Not only was the lesson useful and a small price to pay
for future safety, I also really enjoyed it.
